2024 Canopy Fair Housing Challenge | Stand up for Housing Equity
April is Fair Housing Month. Increase your knowledge and strengthen your commitment to fair housing in the real estate industry this month between April 1-30!
  • Confront and check biases
  • Honor the Fair Housing Act
  • Work to end discrimination, one interaction at a time

How can you meet the challenge? 

CONNECT 

Join friends and colleagues at the Fair Housing Month Celebration the signature event duringCanopy’s Fair Housing Challenge. 

  • The event is scheduled for Thurs., April 11, from 3:30-7:45 p.m. at Canopy Realtor® Association and featuresA Conversation Under the Canopy with national speaker Mia Ives-Rublee, director of the Disability Justice Initiative at American Progress as well as networking, food and fun. 
  • Help Canopy’s Young Professional Network collect 2,000 lbs. of food1 can =1 pound of food.  Bring 1 can of food to the Fair Housing Celebration in support of Second Harvest Food Bank Metrolina. 
  • Check out the Canopy “Diversity in Action” webpage at canopyrealtors.com for local, state, and national resources and information.  
  • Get familiar with the Association’s and Foundation’s commitment to housing and the community. Learn more at the Canopy Housing Foundation’s website.
  • Wear your “Fair Housing For All” t-shirt to special events and classes all month long or send a picture to diversityandinclusion@canopyrealtors.com #canopyFHchallenge
  • Need a t-shirt? Visit the Realtor® Store Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m., or purchase one online.The shirts are $25 each, and all proceeds go to the Canopy Housing Foundation.

LEARN 

  • Using Third-Party Services for Screening? Attend the National Fair Housing Alliance education session Thurs., April 4, from 10 a.m.- 2 p.m. at CPCC Parr Auditorium Zeiss Building.  Keynote speaker Joshua V. Barr Esq.  Hosted by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Community Relations’ Fair Housing Division. 
  • Take NAR’s certification in-person, “Bias Override: Overcoming Barriers to Fair Housing” on Tues., April 16 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. for only $10 for members with Canopy Real Estate Institute. Provides continuing-education elective credit. Provides recertification credit for the Canopy Workforce Housing Certificate program.
  • Complete NAR’s Fairhaven: A Fair Housing Simulation Training.  Any Canopy member who has completed Fairhaven between January 1-April 30, 2024 is eligible to win a free CE class.  Get a sneak peek of what you will learn when you take Fairhaven.  Provides recertification credit for the Canopy Workforce Housing Certificate program.
  • As part of the 30 days of Fair Housing, Canopy is offering the North Carolina CE elective “Big Tent Diversity” live stream via Zoom on Monday, April 22 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. for only $30! Register today.Limited spots are available.  Provides recertification credit for the Canopy Workforce Housing Certificate program.
  • Complete NAR’s At Home With Diversity course online.

VOLUNTEER

  • Help Canopy’s Young Professionals Network reach its goal to collect 2,000 lbs. of food for the 2024 Realtors® Care Day Food Drive.  Donated items will support Second Harvest Food Bank of Metrolina.  1 can = 1 pound of food. 
  • Participate in the 2024 Realtors® Care Day project scheduled for Fri., April 19. The project is held in April to recognize and acknowledge Fair Housing Month and to demonstrate the Realtor® commitment to creating safe and affordable homes for all.
